Book & Author Benefit News 2012

The Christamore Book & Author Benefit is an annual fundraising project of the Christamore House Guild. Monies are raised from hosting a speakers’ luncheon which showcases four to six acclaimed authors and their most recent works. Past notable authors include Cokie Roberts, Mary Higgins Clark, Sue Monk Kidd, David Baldacci, John Grisham, Anna Quindlen, Anita Shreve. The luncheon event takes place at the historic Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis, with an attendance of nearly 1,000 guests. Book sales along with personalized author autographs occur before and after the luncheon/program. In addition, these authors are special guests the evening prior at a patrons’ reception which also includes book sales & signings.

Proceeds from the event’s ticket sales, book sales, and contributions from guests and corporate underwriters are then presented to the Frances Carter Coburn Scholarship Fund, as well as other educational programs at the Christamore House. The scholarship’s namesake, Mrs. Frances Carter Coburn, was a past president of the Christamore House Guild whose efforts were recognized in 1970 with an Outstanding Volunteer Award presented by President Richard Nixon. Since 1981, over $1,000,000 has been raised to provide scholarships to more than 600 students from the Christamore House’s Haughville neighborhood.

On April 19, 2012, the Christamore House Guild members met and mingled with our five acclaimed authors at the Author Reception at the stunning home of Randall and Deborah Tobias. This intimate reception was followed the next day by our fabulous Book and Author Luncheon which was held once again at the historic Indiana Roof Ballroom.

Saks Fifth Avenue was the event’s title sponsor.

This year’s authors included: Bret Lott, Stewart O’Nan, Beth Gutcheon, Cara Black and Tiffany Baker- all shown below at the Author’s Reception.
